Listed buildings say no to a lot of things
A great deal of central Hitchin is listed or sits in a conservation area, and that has a direct effect on what a display can do. Nothing gets fixed to a historic wall, nothing goes near an open flame, and in some rooms even a freestanding frame has to be positioned to leave a fire route clear.
It is not a problem so much as a constraint worth designing around from the start. Freestanding backdrops, weighted bases and garlands built on their own frames all work in listed rooms precisely because they touch nothing. What does not work is planning a wall mounted display and finding out a fortnight before that the venue will not allow it.
Low beams are the other Hitchin speciality. A ceiling height that would take a tall arch in a modern hotel will not take one here, so the display goes wider instead of higher.

Village halls, and the greenery that suits them
Outside the town the pattern is village halls: Ickleford, Pirton, Preston, Great Offley, St Ippolyts and Kimpton all have them, and they take a large share of the christenings, communions and significant birthdays around here.
Rural halls tend to suit a quieter palette than a town function suite. Ivory, sage, soft gold and greenery read properly against a wooden floor and plain walls, where a strong colour scheme can look like it has been imported from somewhere else. Greenery walls in particular do very well here.
Parking and access are the practical thing to mention. Some village halls have a good car park and some have a single track lane, and that difference is worth an extra half hour on the build.

Outdoor ceremonies, and what balloons do in a garden
Several of the venues around Hitchin are set up for outdoor ceremonies, and the villages bring garden parties with them. Outdoors is a different discipline and it is worth being straight about the limits rather than finding them on the day.
Wind is the main one. Anything with a panel behaves like a sail, so backdrops need weighting properly and siting where a hedge or a wall takes the worst of it. Sun is the second: dark balloons absorb heat and expand, so a display built early for an afternoon event is planned around that rather than left to chance.
The upside is that this countryside suits the quieter palettes anyway. Greenery, ivory and soft gold against a hedge or a stone wall looks like it belongs, and it photographs far better in daylight than a strong colour scheme designed for an indoor room.

The ceiling is low. Will an arch still work?
It will, but it goes wider rather than taller. Send a photograph and a rough ceiling height and we will design to what the room can actually take.
