Most of what we build comes from the same set of pieces. A garland, a backdrop, light up numbers or letters, a sequin or flower wall, and the table work underneath. What changes between a christening and a fiftieth is the palette, the scale and where the eye is meant to land.
A first birthday is built around the photograph. The number, the cake table and a corner that parents can stand a child in front of carry the day. A milestone birthday is usually built around the evening, so the colours go deeper and the lighting matters more than it does at lunchtime.
Weddings and christenings are quieter briefs. The decor is there to frame the room rather than to be the subject of it, and most couples and families arrive with a colour already decided from a dress or a flower order. Corporate work runs the other way again, where brand colours are fixed and the install has to fit around opening hours.
